About

We are the 24 Hour Race organisation in Singapore, managed by a committee of students based in local and international school students in Singapore. The 24-Hour race event was first established in Singapore in 2013 and since then, the event has been held annually, with a growth in the number of our community. Our goal is to raise awareness about modern-day slavery.

In the 21st century, there is a lack of understanding surrounding slavery, as the extreme forms have been abolished nearly two centuries ago. However, the issue of violation of the basic human rights is still prevalent today in our society in many different shapes and forms:

Human trafficking for sex, organs, drugs

Forced labour through mental/physical threat

Forced marriage

Involuntary sex trade

With the estimate of 40.3 million enslaved across the globe as of 2016, there is a high concentration of slaves (73%) located in Southeast Asia, especially in the form of exploitation of domestic workers among us. In Singapore, 5% of our population consists of foreign domestic workers employed, and it is important to acknowledge the exploitation of domestic workers in our local communities.

Ironically, Singapore is listed as one of the countries that give little to no priority to this issue in hand. As the future leaders of this world, we hold the responsibility to act upon slavery, raising awareness, making an impact, and empowering other young people.

HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Through the 24-Hour race, the 2025 race runners are expected to raise SGD 250 per runner, which will go towards supporting other NGOs that work for the same cause, including Justice Centre, Right4Children, and Chab Dai Coalition.

As well as the economic aid we give to the cause as a community, the event itself encourages students to push their physical boundaries to their limits, to better understand and sympathize with the victims of modern slavery.

The goal is to create a generation of young people who are more aware of global issues such as modern-day slavery, and empower them to act upon it, and ultimately abolish slavery worldwide.

 How it works

Become a runner

  • If you want to run a race, find out how from your school’s Team Leader. Ask how to buy a ticket, sign-up, and get all the details of what it means to be a runner. If your school does not have a Team Leader yet, email us at hello@24hourrace.org to register as your school’s team leader.

  • Once you have talked to the Team Leader at your school it’s time to buy a ticket.

  • To officially become a runner, we’ll need you to fill in a few forms. You will receive an email with all the necessary forms after you’ve purchased your ticket. Please fill in all forms as soon as you receive your email.

  • This is a huge part of being a runner. Your role is to begin selling IMPACT Tickets by spreading the 24hourrace.shop link to your family and friends. Make sure they support you with IMPACT Tickets!

Become a Team Leader

  • If you are interested in being a Team Leader, contact last year’s Team Leaders or the teacher/staff in charge of the 24 Hour Race at your school. Your school might have a specific Team Leader selection process in place. Notify the 24 Hour Race of your selection as Team Leader.

If your school is new to the 24 Hour Race or you have questions, email hello@24hourrace.org to register as your school in the race and your position as Team Leader.

  • After you have notified the 24 Hour Race that you have become your school’s Team Leader a form will be sent to you. After you have filled in the form and been approved you are underway to being a Team Leader.

  • As a Team Leader you will have to organise the teams that will run for your school. Each team consists of 8 high school students who are 14+ years old. Teams can be all girls, all boys, or mixed gender. If your school does not have 8 runners let the 24 Hour Race know.

  • Make sure you sell at least $250 worth of IMPACT Tickets in your name to confirm your race participation!

  • Everything you need to know about being a great Team Leader can be find our handbook. You’ll need it for information about recruiting runners, creating a 24 Minute Race, fundraising, creating the RAL Schedule, and on-day Responsibilities. This will be emailed to you after Step 2.

If you have been approved as a Team Leader you should also have access to the Team Leader handbook. If you have not received it, please email the Executive Director in your city or hello@24hourrace.org.

Sell impact tickets

  • Find out how IMPACT Tickets work by checking out our IMPACT Ticket FAQ Page on our 24 Hour Race Singapore Runner Hub!

  • To sell tickets successfully, you’ll need to learn about our cause, what we do, and why people should donate. Information about our current fundraising project can be found here.

  • Make sure to share the link to purchase IMPACT Tickets with your friends, family, and others in your network to help you reach your goal of $250. Do remember to tell them to dedicate their ticket purchase to you and your team!

  • Contribute to your team’s goal by selling at least $250 worth of IMPACT Tickets per person. Note that as long as your team sells enough total tickets, it won’t matter if one team member sells more than $250 and another sells less!
